10-bit color

Does the iMac 2020 monitor have color support for anything higher than 8-bit?

Seems like a straight forward question.

But a clear answer can’t be found-seemingly anywhere.


Only- on the product description on the

Apple Pro Display XDR is it addressed

upfront and directly.

10-bit depth. Pro Display XDR also features true 10-bit color depth, with the ability to produce more than a billion colors.

Should I assume the lack of this superlative in the imac 5k 2020 advertising as my answer?

The short answer is yes. The long answer is the app you’re using has to support 10-bit color too. You can confirm by going to system report -> display settings - you should see 30 bit colour 101010 listed there or something similar. This will depend on the OS version your computer is running. Here is an article with a 30-bit test image that you can load in Photoshop and test for banding.
