“Weak Security” Wifi after iOS 14 update

Since updating to the newest iOS 14, my WiFi connection has an alert of “Weak Security”. I’ve called both my internet/service provider and both show on their end the system is registering correctly. Upon reading more, apparently the newest iOS creates a new MAC address that may not be recognized on the modem you use, causing a “Weak Security” notice? My wifi connection on my phone is slower than if I were disconnected from it.

All my other devices work on my wifi.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of this?

This is NOT an iPhone problem; it is a problem with your router settings.

A "Weak Security" notification means that your Wi-Fi router is not configured correctly. There is a new feature in iOS 14 that checks and displays a message if your router is not using the most up-to-date security. Note that your router has always had weak security, you just didn’t know about it until now.

See this Apple support article for how to configure it correctly—>Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support, specifically the section headed Security. And don't forget to configure your range extenders (if any) also! After changing the router settings be sure to forget the network on your phone, then reconnect.

You need to check your router security setting to make sure it’s WPA2 (AES). It is the latest security protocol. If you’re not sure how to do that, call your internet provider and ask what it currently is, and have them change it if not.

If Comcast is your internet provider, they have an App (xFi) where you can check this setting.

Just to be clear, if your router is not set to WPA2 (AES) or WPA3 it has ALWAYS been insecure; you just didn’t know it was insecure until iOS 14 checked it.

I’m in the same situation. This started only recently, and when I called Optimum/Cablevision, they said my router —which is theirs— complies with their security standards and I should ignore everything, they claim it’s an Apple problem. (I googled it and this problem actually goes back to 2015 for some folks.) But now I also can’t tap into their own Wi-Fi when I’m on the road because it won’t let me in because my ipad and iphone see it as weak security. What a pain in the patootie.

bottom line is that I can’t do anything and neither can the cable company.

Thanks for the reply Lawrence but I have had my Mac Pro ; iPhone and a Dell all in the same network same web site playing the same show and the Mac and iPhone will buffer switching from 5g to 2.4 trying to connect flashing “weak security” and after that “no internet connection” so all in a nut shell.... new modem; new router; new line; waste of my money... and still having the same issues and Apple have nothing to reply about. And to make this more difficult I never had this issue until the updates and am not alone here others do have the same problem.
