iPad Pro apps constantly changing sizes on my home screen

Ever since updating to iPadOS 14, my iPad has been experiencing this weird thing where apps on my home screen change between 3 different sizes with the “normal” app appearance being the largest of the three sizes. No, it’s not an issue of choosing between more and bigger icons in display settings (as I thought it might be). If I press and hold down on an app until it causes the home screen edit option to appear, the small apps will resize back to they’re normal size, but they may just go right back to being small. I can find no rhyme or reason as to why this is happening and how to make it stop.

This is bug of which we are seeing frequent reports in the Support Community. At present, there is no fix or lasting workaround for this issue. The issue of inconsistent scaling/sizing of Home Screen App/Folder icons also extends to the new-style Widgets - whilst the old style Widgets are seemingly unaffected by this bug.

As Apple engineering do not or review any posts to this site, please report the issue as a bug using this Apple iPad Feedback Page:

https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.htm

When submitting the report, ensure that you include details of your iPad model and installed version of iPadOS in the body of the report. The drop-down menu doesn’t yet include iPadOS 13.7 or 14.0.

Please do not rely upon others submitting this issue to Apple. History demonstrates that only those bugs for which sufficient reports are received will be assigned priority for remediation.

Got the same problem here on both an iPad Pro 11” (2018) model as well as an iPad Pro 9.7”. Wish I had not upgraded to iPadOS 14.

I have reset the all settings on both iPad’s but all to no avail. Restarting the iPads only works for a few minutes before they start reverting to the random app icon size changing. If you change orientation of the iPad, then the small icons move to other apps. I have also found that if a folder is suffering from the size problem, then it also has odd sizes in it.

Even if I go to the settings and choose to reset to More or Bigger in Home Screen and Dock, it make no difference.

As the affected icons seem to change as you slide between pages or orientation, I can only guess it is an Apple bug that they did not catch. Hopefully this will be addressed in the next update, cos' the BS about them saying reinstall you iPad from factory is a load of crap. With over 950 apps on my iPad, I am not reinstalling them all, it takes a couple of days just to download, let alone set up. Then there is this rubbish about giving it permission to use the resources on my iPad, which reminds me of UAC in Windows Vista.

And finally a company the size and wealth of Apple, that is unable to solve simple problems on their own hardware is lamentable. Microsoft have that excuse, because they will often quote that they did not make the hardware they are being made to support, so with Apple that does not apply.

The screen shots show the problem clearly, with both More and Bigger settings, as well as folders.

Any takers

I can confirm that, as others can testify, this is associated with the Wallpaper setting in the Settings app.

If you open this setting, or modify anything inside it, the problem shown above will occur.

I tested this out on the iPad Pro 9.7" 256Gb Cellular + WiFi and the iPad Pro 11" 1Tb Cellular + WiFi.

Both above mentioned iPads had been updated to iPadOS 14.

Both above mentioned iPads also had the Reset All Settings performed on them.

On both occasions, visiting the Wallpaper setting in the Settings app on either iPad Pro resulted in the display app icon corruption shown above. This is a repeatable situation.

Going to any other setting within the Settings app did not result in this corruption shown above.
