Scan from iPhone (MacOSX) Error : Device was disconnected

Hello,

When I try to scan a document from my iphone, using the MacOSX fonction: Import from iPhone>Scan document, I get an error.

In fact the scan running well but at the end of the scan, when it should send it to the mac, the app close on the iPhone, and I get this error on the Mac

Anyone has this issue since last iOS update (to iOS14)?

I run iOS 14 on an iPhone 7 and MacOSX 10.15.6.

Thx for the help!

Hey there, gilleswlk!

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities! If we understand correctly, you're able to scan a document to your Mac, but when it tried importing the scanned item you receive an error.

It looks like your Mac might need to be updated. We recommend updating to the latest macOS version first, then check if the scan is imported properly.

I'm having the exactly same problem I think since the iOS14 update. Tough, I only have been scanning A5 sized notebooks and with those it keeps crashing after shooting the first scan, before offering next scan or "done". Error message: "the device was disconnected". The problem seems to be with continuity, since scanning to Notes does work as usually.

I have updated both my iPhone SE (2nd gen) and Macbook Air (2020) to the newest OS.

I was able to make one scan from the iPad but it has failed since then. The iPhone didn't successfully do a scan. I rely on this workflow and it has consistently failed since the upgrade from iOS 13 to iOS 14 and I have had to use workarounds that add significantly to my workload. It is very disappointing that Apple has not addressed this.

Hi Dos, thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. I installed update 14.2 today hoping that it would fix this workflow but sadly, it didn't.

The thing I have noticed is that it seems to depend on the size of the scan. If I am scanning a smaller document, it seems to work fine but when I scan an A4 page it crashes, every time. I'd be interested to know whether that's your experience as well.

I have the exact same problem using both an iPhone7 (iOS 14.0.1) and an iPad Pro 9.7" (iPadOS 14.0) on my Mac (10.15.7). Right click on the Desktop and selecting Import from iPhone or iPad then Scan Document opens the camera on my device. The image is captured ok and processed to create a scanned document, however the process terminates at the point of sending the resultant image to my Mac. I had no problems scanning documents on iOS 13.7

I have noticed that the Continuity feature works when I take a photo from my device to my Mac and I can also scan on my device (phone and iPad) to the Notes app running on the device. This would suggest to me that the problem is specific to the document scanning using the Continuity feature.

Are others experiencing this problem as well? The Continuity document scanner is a really useful feature that I use frequently.
