Scan from iPhone (MacOSX) Error : Device was disconnected

Hello,

When I try to scan a document from my iphone, using the MacOSX fonction: Import from iPhone>Scan document, I get an error.

In fact the scan running well but at the end of the scan, when it should send it to the mac, the app close on the iPhone, and I get this error on the Mac

Anyone has this issue since last iOS update (to iOS14)?

I run iOS 14 on an iPhone 7 and MacOSX 10.15.6.

Thx for the help!

hi there MoonJ, thanks for your response but that is not what was described. The issue has nothing to do with “scanning a document to your Mac” and is related to Continuity. The phone (and iPad) can scan a document and I can scan on my Mac using a TWAIN compliant flatbed scanner. The problem arises only when using Continuity.

I find it irritating that your answer is that “your Mac might need updating “ as I stated above that my MacBook Pro is running the latest version of Catalina (10.15.7) and the iss has only occurred with the update to iOS/iPadOS 14. I believe that this is a bug with the new mobile operating systems, possibly affecting only older hardware, and needs to be reported to Apple.

kind regards,

Joe

Hey gilleswlk,

thats a really interesting observation. Until now I had only tried A4 sized documents but at your suggestion I tried something smaller and I was able to scan an A5 sized postcard and a notebook of non standard size. I have tried scanning documents in Manual mode and dragging the constraints to a smaller size but this doesn’t work either.

Also, I realised that I had not been entirely accurate in my description of the issue. I said that the problem arose when transferring the data to the host Mac but after trying it a couple of times successfully with smaller documents, it definitely crashes at the point of processing the image because I don’t get the option to scan another image.

I have had this problem too and found that by turning off handoff on my mac and turning it back on again I am able to scan to the desktop again.

Click on  > System Preferences > General.

Scroll down and turn off. Allow Handoff between this Mac and Connected iCloud devices. Then turn back on again.

Fingers crossed this stays working!

Hi joecoleman, unfortunately this was a temporary fix and lasted for a few scans before I had to do it again.

I have found that even small fuel tickets that I need to enter on my accounting software don't scan, I usually scan larger (A4) through my printer. I haven't taken the plunge to install Big Sur yet, but it seems that that doesn't make a difference either.

This definitely needs a fix and soon.
