macbook pro touchbar dents too easily

I have had the dark grey MacBook Pro 15" for a couple of years now and as much as I love the machine, I find its body very fragile. The edges are dented and scratched and the ports look like I've attacked them with a grater! I've had Apple laptops for over 10 years and I've treated this one the same as my unibody, my Air... etc.

Has anyone else noticed this?

The cases of Apple notebooks are aluminum, which is not an especially durable metal (but it is light weight). Aluminum is a silver color, any other color (space gray, gold, etc.) is anodized. While anodization is not a coating per se, it acts like one in that it can be scratched off to reveal the base-colored (silver) aluminum underneath. So the non-silver Mac notebooks show the scratches and abrasions much more readily that the silver cases (older cases were all silver).

I wanted a dark gray or black Apple Watch Series 5, and the propensity of anodized aluminum to show scratches is the main reason I went with the black stainless steel model.

It looks deeper than scratches, though. In some places it's almost like the metal has been gouged. And I'm very careful.

I wish I'd known this before buying. I always sell my Apple equipment when I upgrade and up until now I've been able to mark the item as 'slight wear and tear'. With this one, I'm going to have to say 'well used' and adjust the price accordingly!

Thanks for the information.
