iPhone makes regular ticking sound when charging

My iPhone 4s make a regular ticking sound when charging. I have tried two different charging leads. It ticks at a rate of 160 per minute.

Hello peterfromlouth,

Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities for help with your iPhone 4s making noises when connected to the charger. We'd be happy to look into this with you.

What kind of charger do you use? Is it an Apple branded or certified charger? Does it make those noises for a short period of time when you connect your device to the charger, or does it keep producing those noises as long as it is connected to the charger?

When did you first notice this issue?

Let's try to restart your iPhone normally, and let us know if the issue persists afterwards.

Kind regards.

Thank you for your reply. I tried two different chargers, both Apple brand, with the same result, one in the car and another at home. The ticking noise starts only when I try to use Apple maps or Google maps, and continues when I leave maps, for as long as it is connected to the charger.

Anyway the question is now obsolete because I've bought a new iPhone, which has various advantages over my 8-year-old one!
