Apple Watch App Not Working After iOS 14 Update

My Apple Watch app stopped working after updating my iPhone XR to iOS 14. I tried to delete it, but it won’t delete. When I try to open the app, all I get is the “Apple Watch is syncing” screen. (I didn’t start the sync process. ) Also, my Apple Watch 3 no longer syncs with the phone (the Fitness app doesn’t work either). I synced my phone to iCloud and reset my phone, but the problem persists. I hope to find a solution to this issue.

I was experiencing similar issues. Even after a factory reset of my Watch and a factory reset of my iPhone (with a subsequent restore from iCloud) I was running into the issue of the Watch app not launching or presenting me with a syncing screen. I eventually was able to work around it by removing the Watch app from my phone. As many might discover, starting in iOS14 you can not actually "delete" the Watch app, rather you can "Remove it from your home screen". I found that by going into Settings-->iPhone Storage-->Watch and selecting the option "Offload App" I was actually able to remove the app off my iPhone (I had a hard time finding the Watch app in iPhone Storage so I actually used the magnifying glass in the upper right of the screen to search for it). Once that was accomplished I was able to go into the App Store and re-download the Watch app, to my astonishment the Watch app launched and functioned without issue.

A CAUTIONARY NOTE: After re-downloading the app and "setting up my Watch" I noticed that while I was able to setup my Watch from my prior backup I had lost ALL of my activity and health data. While somewhat frustrating I felt it an acceptable trade-off since I was able to use my Watch and iPhone again.

Not sure if it will work for others, but I figured I would share my experience with others. Good luck.

Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Within iPhone storage find your Watch application. There should be an option to "offload" or "Delete" the app altogether. What worked for me was deleting it altogether. After deleting, re-download from the apple store. Make sure you're connected to Wifi/internet before downloading. After opening the re-downloaded app, it should prompt you to set up your apple watch. Be sure your apple watch is charging with its original cord and adapter.

If you've reset your watch, DO NOT choose the language or region before pairing. Somehow it prevented me from pairing. I hope this helps. If you have any questions lemme know!

After updating to iOS 14, my Apple Watch series 6 continuously kept disconnecting throughout the day until late this evening it would not even re connect and the watch app on my phone will not even open. I have tried resetting both the phone and watch. Problem continues to persist. I can’t even set my watch up as the app will not open. Very frustrating.

So after factory reset you lose all you stuff or did you use your iCloud backup?

I got my series 6 on Tuesday, noticed Wednesday things were not working right with fitness and communication to health. Followed the steps they put out on fixing that yesterday around 10am, things seem to be working good then last night 9:45 my app would it open and I haven’t been able to connect the watch to phone. I was told by support this morning they are aware and trying to find a fix, but after reading comments here this has been a problem for a couple weeks.

I only lost my apps, I stored my pics and contacts on iCloud. The first reset I restored everything including my apps and my phone app did the same would blink and shut down. Second reset I only restored contacts and pictures and have been adding apps as I think about them or need them. Has been working since then, no issues. When is was trying to fix this issue I was reading about how the watch app was trying to sync and got “stuck”. I think what happened to mine is that I charged it at work and it was has my iTunes account in there and I think it was trying to sync there and it couldn’t, not sure if this had anything to do with it but I no longer charge my watch on my computer only to a wall outlet.

Same Issue. Apple Watch App vanished from my updated iPhone XS. Powered off & on iPhone. Powered off & on brand new Series 6 Apple Watch.

Apple Watch App deleted & downloaded again. Apple Watch App will not load up on iPhone. Apple Watch App unusable. Apple Watch Series 6 dysfunctional.

Ridiculous. Apple cannot support their own Watch Application functionality.

Solution? Apple, Technical mitigation?

I was talking to Apple Support yesterday as I just got the SE Watch on Tuesday and it was working fine until Wednesday midday and then stopped connecting to my phone. The watch app is quitting as soon as I press it. I have restarted both of them, updated my phone to the recent update and have just done a factory reset and still does not work :(

Here’s what I did to fix this issue. It was extremely frustrating so hopefully it works for you too.

1st step: reset your Apple Watch and put to the side.

2nd step: go to your phone and settings, general, reset, and reset all content and setting (make sure you back up your phone to iCloud)

3rd step: after you set up phone again, go to general in settings, iPhone storage, go down to watch and delete from phone.

4th step: go to app store and install watch app

5th step: now you can pair watch to phone by opening the watch app.

hope this works!!!!

Brand new series 6 watch and had to update to 14.1 to pair to my phone. Worked fine for 5 days then it lost pairing and my watch app on my phone won’t open. Was on phone with 3 lvls of techs none of which ever admitted it was apples fault. To ultimately tell me it was a bad download of the 14.1 version and I would have to reset my phone. Can’t try that yet because I’m on vacation. So now I’m stuck with a dead watch. Thanks for nothing Apple!
