Apple Watch App Not Working After iOS 14 Update

My Apple Watch app stopped working after updating my iPhone XR to iOS 14. I tried to delete it, but it won’t delete. When I try to open the app, all I get is the “Apple Watch is syncing” screen. (I didn’t start the sync process. ) Also, my Apple Watch 3 no longer syncs with the phone (the Fitness app doesn’t work either). I synced my phone to iCloud and reset my phone, but the problem persists. I hope to find a solution to this issue.

I was experiencing similar issues. Even after a factory reset of my Watch and a factory reset of my iPhone (with a subsequent restore from iCloud) I was running into the issue of the Watch app not launching or presenting me with a syncing screen. I eventually was able to work around it by removing the Watch app from my phone. As many might discover, starting in iOS14 you can not actually "delete" the Watch app, rather you can "Remove it from your home screen". I found that by going into Settings-->iPhone Storage-->Watch and selecting the option "Offload App" I was actually able to remove the app off my iPhone (I had a hard time finding the Watch app in iPhone Storage so I actually used the magnifying glass in the upper right of the screen to search for it). Once that was accomplished I was able to go into the App Store and re-download the Watch app, to my astonishment the Watch app launched and functioned without issue.

A CAUTIONARY NOTE: After re-downloading the app and "setting up my Watch" I noticed that while I was able to setup my Watch from my prior backup I had lost ALL of my activity and health data. While somewhat frustrating I felt it an acceptable trade-off since I was able to use my Watch and iPhone again.

Not sure if it will work for others, but I figured I would share my experience with others. Good luck.

It took me until today to try the reset of my watch. I had updated to 14.2 on iPhone and then this morning I updated watch to 7.1 on the watch. My watch app is on the pair a new watch screen. It wouldn’t pair my watch because it said it was already paired with a watch. Couldn’t unpair because screen on watch app did not give that option. Apple support said to reset watch. I did and then paired with the watch app and so far everything is working perfectly. I sure hope this lasts!

I just bought my new series 6 3 or 4 weeks ago (first time watch user). Had no issues for the 1st week. After the first update it started doing this: App just opens for a spilt second than closes instantly, still not working after latest update. I have reset my watch, removed it from my paired devices on my iPhone. Powered on/off both devices. I refuse to reset iPhone/backup don’t have the time for that. I cannot delete the watch app either! @Apple please fix this.

This helped a lot In particular the activation lock.

I did mine slightly different. I erased my watch first, then removed activation lock on phone, hoping I could then delete the watch app from the phone. Nope. I then made sure my phone backup was all up to date both on icloud and on my mac.

Reset phone.

Restore from mac.

Delete watch app while other apps are download, tail end of restore.

Download watch app from app store, it took a couple tries as I was downloading a lot of apps.

I am writing this as I am in the process of installing the watch.

All seems well at this point. Lost a week of excersize data

I have the iPhone 11 Max and a brand new iWatch 6 series. I updated to the 14.2 software and now my apple watch app will not open. I tried backing up and restarting my phone from factory and the watch. That did nothing. Now I can not even use my watch as a watch. It keeps asking to pair, which I can not, because the app will not open. I spoke with customer service and they tried to trouble shoot. They told me to reach out to the App Developer, which is Apple, so I am confused.

Hi everyone,

my wife bought me the watch 6, and I installed it only for it to work with my iPhone 7+ for a few hrs, then the infamous watch app would not work then open for a split second then shut, I tried all the usual hard resets but to no avail couldn't even delete the app. I contacted Apple who were as good as useless I even told them so that it's a IOS 14 issue they 'played dumb'. I eventually came across this forum thinking I can't be alone, and low and behold yeah loads of disgruntled apple watch users here with the same issue.

So I read through just about everyones issues, and it became clear that the phone would need to be iCloud backed up & erase all data and then install the backup, but I before backed up to icloud, I had to purchase more storage space as my 50GB was not enough, so invested in the 200 GB for £2.99 and set to task of backing up the iPhone to icloud which took about 3hrs finished at 00.30.

So this morning I bit the bullet and thought s**t or bust I had to do something, so then followed the info provided on here to erase all info & setting and restore from the back up, well I thought that this was going to be a bit nail biting, but quite painless, really straight forward all info back up and running as before but with the added bonus that I could now delete the Watch app & restore it. So at this time I have an iPhone backed up & working, 200Gb of storage & the Iwatch working as should be.

The Moral of this story, Check the forums first so you don't waste your time talking to Apple, as some of you guys here have more experience to sort these issues than Apple or care too.

Sorry to rant on but It worked for me.

I had the exact same issue. I bought an Apple Watch 6. It worked fine for two days then the Watch app stopped working on my iPhone 12. I spent an hour on the phone to Apple who could not rectify it. I then did a factory reset which took 2 hours and did nothing. I took the watch back to the Apple store on Saturday. Bottom line - Apple know there is a bug but, unlike Android who upgrade their apps individually to fix bugs, a solution will have to wait until the new version of the iOS (14.3?) is released.

I paired my watch with another phone and it still does not delete itself from my first phone. First phone still says it’s paired and does not allow me to delete the app. Really annoying! Now I m not able to use the watch since the other phone is work phone and I do not want to be alerted by work messages on my wrist!

Hey what worked for me was factory resetting my phone and basically starting fresh. I factory reset my phone then logged into my Apple ID however I did not download anything from my iCloud. I factory reset my watch and also removed the watch from my iCloud done by logging into it on my computer. I then downloaded the Apple Watch app and was able to pair the watch and start again.

Hi! I had this same problem and was on line with multiple apple technicians and none of them helped. However, I was able to fix it one simple step after hours of trying different methods.

1) Erase Apple Watch (Make sure its backed up)

2) Pair Apple Watch with someone else's iPhone but stop at the part where they want them to agree to the conditions.

3) This should allow you to finally delete the app and for me, after redownloading it, it worked fine and I paired it with my phone.

Hopefully that helped!

This was helpful but not as intended. I tried this but funnily enough when I went to storage and found the Watch App it actually offered me the opportunity to delete the App from the phone (I'm iPhone X running ios 14.3). So I had the shot and I took it. Reinstalled from App Store. App was working again but couldn't sync with phone. As my phone was less than a day old I figured I didn't have any data worth a dam so I erased my watch and went through the setup again. Seems to be working so far.

Here is what I did to resolve an issue with the Bluetooth and watch app on my iPhone 12. Reset your watch settings/general/reset. Back up your phone. Might take a little while. Then erase all content and settings in settings/general/rest. Then restore your phone from back up. Before you connect your watch to the phone press and hold the watch app until you see delete app. Then go to App Store and download the app again. Then start up connection per new watch

Hmm, that’s annoying. Have you tried unpairing the watch from your phone? Or you could try pinging your Apple Watch from the watch app to try and force it out of the Apple logo screen. I’m sure you’ve been looking around for solutions, but here’s a website with some things to try if you haven’t already https://macreports.com/apple-watch-is-stuck-on-the-apple-logo/
