Apple Watch App Not Working After iOS 14 Update

My Apple Watch app stopped working after updating my iPhone XR to iOS 14. I tried to delete it, but it won’t delete. When I try to open the app, all I get is the “Apple Watch is syncing” screen. (I didn’t start the sync process. ) Also, my Apple Watch 3 no longer syncs with the phone (the Fitness app doesn’t work either). I synced my phone to iCloud and reset my phone, but the problem persists. I hope to find a solution to this issue.

I was experiencing similar issues. Even after a factory reset of my Watch and a factory reset of my iPhone (with a subsequent restore from iCloud) I was running into the issue of the Watch app not launching or presenting me with a syncing screen. I eventually was able to work around it by removing the Watch app from my phone. As many might discover, starting in iOS14 you can not actually "delete" the Watch app, rather you can "Remove it from your home screen". I found that by going into Settings-->iPhone Storage-->Watch and selecting the option "Offload App" I was actually able to remove the app off my iPhone (I had a hard time finding the Watch app in iPhone Storage so I actually used the magnifying glass in the upper right of the screen to search for it). Once that was accomplished I was able to go into the App Store and re-download the Watch app, to my astonishment the Watch app launched and functioned without issue.

A CAUTIONARY NOTE: After re-downloading the app and "setting up my Watch" I noticed that while I was able to setup my Watch from my prior backup I had lost ALL of my activity and health data. While somewhat frustrating I felt it an acceptable trade-off since I was able to use my Watch and iPhone again.

Not sure if it will work for others, but I figured I would share my experience with others. Good luck.

I’m having the same problem. I picked up my Apple Watch 6 Thursday Oct 29th late and paired with my iPhone X and everything worked great till about 1pm on Friday Oct 30th. My watch wasn’t showing the connection to my phone. Then I tried to open the watch app and it is frozen on the Start Pairing you watch screen. I went into Google and started reading all of the complaints and so many people with the same problem with no real fix.

I've had an Apple Watch for 5 years and it has been my favorite thing with my iPhone. My series 1 died in May this year for 2 weeks then I got it back going. Then in August it died and I haven’t been able to get it going. Figured Apple didn’t want my watch to come back since it would not take Watch 6 update or pair with a phone using IOS 14.

My watch is working and does record health data and all on my watch. My iPhone is working fine but the Watch App is not working and doesn’t show and health data on the phone. I’m afraid to do all of the resets and deleting - I’m afraid I’ll make it worse. I was hoping for a fix from Apple quickly but after reading all of your comments I’m worried. I always thought Apple was the best.

It seems different things are at working for different people. I have tried everything. My watch is saying it needs to update to iOS 7 but won’t do it. My phone is at 14.2. I have turned everything on and off. I can’t offload or delete the watch app. There isn’t the option to pair with my watch as the app just flashes black and doesn’t open. So no blu tooth connection either. I haven’t reset anything as I am scared too, scared to lose things, don’t have the time and really don’t think any of us should be having to do all this. BAD APPLE!!!!🤬

I have the same situation. I just bought the SE model about three weeks ago. It worked great until about a week/week and a half ago. The watch app blinks and does not open. The watch won’t pair. I reset the watch and nothing. My phone is updated to 14.2. My watch is updated to 7.1. So now I have an expensive, worthless watch. Before I tried to reset it at least it worked as a watch. Now it doesn’t even do that. I’m afraid to reset my phone. Come on @apple!

I actually had to check whether I had written your post. Exactly the same. I have submitted a return request but I am devastated. I had to wait weeks for my SE watch. I know some people have said resetting both works but some have said it doesn’t. I reset my watch and now can’t get it to pair with my phone as the app won’t open. It’s all boxed up ready to return. 😢

I had the same issue spent lot of hour with apple support to figure out the issue and no solution and finally i returned the watch...I am a Fitbit user from 5 years and only thing I tempted apple watch coz of ECG and nike series and premium quality but it looks there are major native app issue which apple has to address ASAP... It doesn't make sense if app is not working means to restore the whole iPhone which is stupid thing... Switching back to my fitbit versa... once the solution for watch app is there i might consider it again.

I am not joking... my partner just spent an hour on the phone to a tech guy who said he hadn’t heard of this issue. He had permission to access my phone so we showed him this forum and he said he had no idea this was an issue! Anyway. He couldn’t fix it. Refusing a refund. They are saying there is nothing wrong with the watch, it’s my phone that’s playing up. Funny that! My phone isn’t under warranty anymore! Well I had no issues with my phone until I got the watch 4 weeks ago! I’m really surprised at Apple I thought they were better than this. They clearly couldn’t care less. Of course... it will be Covids fault in the end anyway. 😉

They are saying because it is past the 30 days cooling off period and it’s not a fault with the watch itself then i am not entitled to a refund. I bought it directly from Apple online. They are saying I need to go in to a store and the technicians there will have a look but we are on lock down in the UK so none of ate stores are open until 4th December (if they open up). Then you have to try and get an appointment with the store. I don’t have one where I live either. If I’d have known all this... I love my watch too. I waited weeks for it to arrive. Now it won’t even tell the time because they advised me to master reset it. This forum has helped a lot but I am not sure how Apple are getting away with this.😢
