iOS 14 sleep wake up alarm sound not working on iPhone

Since updating to iOS 14 on my iPhone XR and watchOS 7 on my Apple Watch Series 3, my Sleep/Wake Up alarm sound (Early Riser) does not work on my iPhone. My watch vibrates to wake me but there is no activity on my iPhone. Prior to the updates, my watch vibrated AND my phone sounded the alarm. I preferred that.

I have made sure that my volume is turned up on Sounds & Haptics under the Sleep app as well as under Settings. Do Not Disturb is set to end at my Wake Up time.

I too was having this Issue and it was driving me insane. I don't like wearing my watch when I sleep. I finally figured out how to turn it off from the watch and let it play through your phone!

Go into the clock app on your iPhone --> alarm/wake and click "change" --> click "edit schedule" --> scroll down and click "options"--> scroll down and click "manage sleep in the Apple Watch app --> scroll down and click "don't use this watch for alarm".

***NOTE: This will not vibrate your watch or play any part of the alarm through your watch! It will only play on your iPhone***

For some reason the glitch thinks that you are wearing the watch to bed and only sends the alarm to the watch. I always have the watch charging at night, never on my wrist. On your watch you can go to settings and then “sleep” and disable the sleep function. Since doing that the alarm has been going to my phone each morning.

I found a fix that worked!

go into watch settings on the watch app and turn “nightstand mode” off.

Then go into “sleep” setting on the watch app and set up watch for sleep but then immediately turn around and disable it.

When my alarm goes off in the morning now, my phone is ringing again loudly and my watch doesn’t go off at all.

So I had this problem too after updating 1OS14 and finally found this which I tried and it worked for me.

Open the Clock app & tap the Bedtime tab. Under Schedule, tap Bedtime or Wake Up and turn off Bedtime Schedule in the top right corner. Force close the Clock app and restart your iPhone. Turn your Bedtime Schedule back on after this. My phone "wake up" alarm went off this am and not just the haptic on my watch.

Hope it helps!!

I have the same problem. Anyway (see here https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/adjust-wake-up-alarm-iphone-apple-watch/ but also look under the option for sounds and haptics in the bedtime app on your watch), if the watch is in silent mode it says clearly that the sound will not play. If you disable silent mode on watch the message in the bedtime app under the option for sounds and haptics changes and now it says the sound will play. So it is not a bug, it is intentional. I do not like, as others here, this feature because I do no want my watch to keep on beeping every time a notification is on my iPhone. I have been wearing watches for years and always in silent mode. Hopefully Apple will introduce some options to change this in one of the next updates.

I had this problem as well. I typically leave my watch on the charger in the kitchen so when it was going off this morning I had no idea until my husband said something. I went through the settings and I’m thinking sleep needs to be removed from the watch. Go to the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and scroll to sleep. At the bottom of the screen there is an option for “don’t use watch to track sleep.” This should fix the problem.

First, thank you to all the comments and suggestions. I upgraded to ios 14 and also got new Apple 6 watch with OS7. Could not resolve sleep alarm on phone. (iPhone X). Just got ios 14.1. they must have fixed this problem For 2 days now my alarm goes off on phone by my bed at time set under sleep app. Hopefully if you upgrade to ios 14.1 problem will resolve.

I just got the feedback from apple engineering via a senior support advisor - this is now expected behavior. Apparently other people didn't want an audible alarm, and submitted that the alarm not respecting silent mode was a bug. So, good luck. Either turn off silent mode or don't sleep with your watch. Love that apple pushed this out without some kind of notification or option. Sweet. Was told the only option was to submit a request for enhancement to have it be configurable.
