iOS 14 sleep wake up alarm sound not working on iPhone

Since updating to iOS 14 on my iPhone XR and watchOS 7 on my Apple Watch Series 3, my Sleep/Wake Up alarm sound (Early Riser) does not work on my iPhone. My watch vibrates to wake me but there is no activity on my iPhone. Prior to the updates, my watch vibrated AND my phone sounded the alarm. I preferred that.

I have made sure that my volume is turned up on Sounds & Haptics under the Sleep app as well as under Settings. Do Not Disturb is set to end at my Wake Up time.

I too was having this Issue and it was driving me insane. I don't like wearing my watch when I sleep. I finally figured out how to turn it off from the watch and let it play through your phone!

Go into the clock app on your iPhone --> alarm/wake and click "change" --> click "edit schedule" --> scroll down and click "options"--> scroll down and click "manage sleep in the Apple Watch app --> scroll down and click "don't use this watch for alarm".

***NOTE: This will not vibrate your watch or play any part of the alarm through your watch! It will only play on your iPhone***

My kids had to wake me up the last two days! Late! Both preceding nights I had adjusted the alarm from say 6:00 to 6:30. I checked and double checked. Even changed the wake tone. Still didn’t go off!

Early Riser isn’t available on my iPad for an alarm sound anymore, not since I’ve updated to iOS 14. Apparently working on my iPhone 8 Plus, but! I dare not go into the alarm settings, it is grayed out but I see the default Radar ‘set’ and if I attempt to change it, I will lose Early Riser as I attempted on my iPad, I know, weird. I’d like to restore Early Riser, I noticed this thread and thought I’d add my .02.

Does everyone here have an apple watch and use the "bedtime" feature for their alarm? I went into my bedtime settings today and it said "When you wear your apple watch to bed, the alarm will go off on your watch." So I, too, have been getting the vibrations to wake up-- BARELY-- but I keep my apple watch on silent because I don't like noisy notifications following me around all day. It doesn't seem like there's an option to turn that off...

I am experiencing a related bug with the sleep alarm. I have a schedule set for my daily alarm, but I change it somewhat most days. It displays the updated time in several places (the app, notification area, etc) but I have been woken at the original time. I do know that it only changes it for one day but it’s been happening when I’m quite certain I adjusted it and double checked before sleeping. Very frustrating. I miss how it was.

I turned off night stand mode and sleep tracking on my Apple Watch, but neither fixed the issue. I give up on the new feature - hopefully the developers read these comments and apply a fix. Thankfully the ‘good old’ alarm functionality still works. Apple, please don’t go getting all fancy on that function as well - leave it alone because it works.

This may not be the fix that people want, but it works until Apple fixes things. In your watch app turn off nightstand more. DO NOT WEAR YOUR WATCH WHE YOU SLEEP!!! If you wear your watch to sleep your phone will not sound and only the watch will vibrate. Your watch must be on the charger with the nightstand more off for the alarm to sound on your phone. I know this is not ideal for everyone, but until/if there is a fix by Apple, this is the only way to get an audible alarm. It’s better to not have the watch track your sleep than to be late for work/class. Sorry for being blunt but thats just how I am.

I have to jump on this bandwagon too. Now that I turned on sleep tracking with my watch, it plays the sound through the watch, and vibrates the watch. This is a horrible design since the watch is quieter to start, and can be covered by my body and blankets and pillow.

Apple, you must return the sound portion to the phone, or give a toggle where it can be chosen by the user!!!

Got the same frustrating issue!

I NEVER wear apple watch when sleeping, they are on charge;

I noticed a few things here:

  • the volume fo ringer and alerts goes down on its own!
  • restoring default settings and reinstalling iOS 14.0.1 did not help!
  • apple watch still has alarm displayed but iPhone has it too but it is still SILENT!
  • if I set just alarm (not wake me riser weekly thing) the alarm on iPhone works as normal.

PLEASE FEX IT!

I have the same issue! The screen shows my alarm but it’s not vibrating or ringing, which is weird because other notifications do ring/vibrate. I thought that maybe it wasn’t working because the sound was a song that I might’ve removed from my phone, but when I changed it, still didn’t work! I tried with my phone facing up, facing towards my bedstand, plugged, unplugged, and nothing worked! They seriously need to fix it because I don’t enjoy sleeping through my classes!

This is how I have my alerts set up as well.

Prior to the update, the bedtime sleep alarms would sound and vibrate on my phone despite the watch being on silent.

I have this same issue that the new sleep schedule (bedtime) alarm is only vibrating on the watch because it’s on silent and I’m wearing it to bed.

I would like it to also vibrate and sound on the phone as well, despite the watch being in ‘silent mode’.

If I didn’t have a ‘backup alarm’ set, I might oversleep some days.

I’m hoping they fix this issue in the next update in the sleep schedule options.

———

Extra note that’s not necessarily an issue but might be for some - the vibration alert for the sleep schedule alarm on the watch is now completely different, and there’s no option to choose the type of vibration pattern.

Ok I tried this multiple times. Here is what I found:

if you have the watch on but locked, the phone will sound. If you unlock the watch the sound will move to the watch. This includes if you snooze and unlock it.

what is strange to me though, it has to be worn. If it’s on the charger it will sound on the watch still.

so I guess it’s use sleep tracking but lock the watch before sleep, or turn off sleep tracking if you don’t want to use it.
