I ordered the Red band with my apple watch 6. Only one end fits into either location and the other won't fit. It seems a tad too thick. This is the nylon velcro.
Fortunately my old watch 5 band works and is now on that watch. I also tried the new band with the watch 5 and same thing, one end is too thick. for 50 bucks plus Iowa tax I would hope it would work.
Sounds like you may have ordered or received the wrong size band for your watch
38mm and 40mm watch faces use the same band - smaller Apple Watch
42mm and 44mm use the same band - larger Apple Watch

Not both is right. I gave a hard look at my older watch band at the ends and they do not even look the same compared to the new band. In the meantime, I ordered a band from Amazon that looks like a new version of the old band at a much lower price.
The watch is the 44mm size and the band was a choice option.
