Cannot uninstall OneDrive app

I use onedrive a lot for college and since we’re working from home I’ve been using it a lot more. We were given new login details for the year. So I deleted the folder for onedrive (since on a mac it creates a folder), then tried deleting the app but the app wouldn’t delete. So I emptied the bin and it still wouldn’t delete. When I try and delete the app it says that onedrive is open but nothing is open because everything in it is deleted (which maybe I shouldn’t have done looking back)... I tried deleting it by dragging it to the bin but that didn’t work either. I tried clicking on the onedrive app to see if it would open but it just takes me to my home screen... I really need to be able to use it soon so I can use it for my work, please help if you can, TIA!

Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items tab, and if OneDrive is on the list select it and click the (–) button at the bottom. Then restart your Mac (Apple menu > Restart). After it boots up, drag the OneDrive application to the trash and empty the trash. After that, you should be able to re-download OneDrive from the Mac App Store.

There is an additional possible side issue:

If OneDrive loads at startup, it becomes part of the currently-running MacOS. You can move an item that is part of the running MacOS TO the Trash, but possibly not empty the Trash, because that software is still active. (deleting parts of the running MacOS would cause spectacular crashes, so it is not allowed.)

Once the files is marked as "In The Trash" then you do a Restart. That restart will no longer incorporate OneDrive in the current running MacOS, because you moved it out of its normal place. Once it is not part of the running MacOS, you can freely empty the Trash.
