Samsung 2018 QE55 Q9FN - Disney Plus Atmos

Hi all,

I am aware that my 2018 Samsung QE55 Q9FN TV does not support Dolby Vision. Will that impact my chances of getting Dolby Atmos ( DD+ Atmos) through ATV4K via the Disney plus app ?

Are the two connected ? will you only get Dolby Atmos if your TV can handle Dolby Vision.

Does anyone who has this tv (or a similar Samsung ) get Dolby Atmos/ DD+ Atmos through their ATV4K with Disney plus ?.

I am using a HD Fury Arcana to a Sonos arc and so far neither the TV internal app or the Sky Q or Roku Streaming Stick plus are giving me anything above normal 5.1 - despite getting 4kUHd and HDR picture.

However, I do get DD+ Atmos from Amazon prime for example with the Roku and internal tv app - so I know it does work.

Want to understand before I go for ATV4K that it will give me DD+ Atmos for Disney plus.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Devices will generally check for Dolby Atmos capable audio equipment (and compatible connections) before making such content available to the user.

Smart apps natively to the TV may be limited by app programming, or the TV capabilities, in that the TV would have to be designed with support for Atmos in mind.

The Apple TV 4K box will try to detect Dolby Atmos capable audio equipment (and compatible connections) on its own.

The Apple TV 4K box uses Dolby MAT for Atmos, which is a high bandwidth form of Atmos, that will not work through ARC connections (but might work with eARC). It is not DD+ Atmos.

Neither HD Fury Arcana nor Sonos Arc are specifically recommended by Apple. You will have to find users with the exact same equipment to be sure.

Hi @rkaufmann87 , thanks for your response.

I should have made it clear that I am already getting Dolby Atmos from a number of sources 1) Sky Q 2) UHD Blu-ray player and 3) sites like Amazon Prime (through a Roku streaming stick plus) but not from Disney plus. I have the right equipment but trying to avoid purchasing a ATV4K to find out it won't give me Atmos from Disney plus either.

Well then there isn't much I can do to help you, your issue is with your sound system. If your TV doesn't support Atmos you need to find a sound solution like the receiver suggestion to support all of your devices. If you already have streaming device like a Roku, Apple TV etc. then your issue is not with Apple or any of it's content, it's with your sound system.
