iOS14 iPhone USB tethering broken for Linux/OpenWRT

This is affecting me as well. I had an iPhone X with iOS 14 and was unable to use USB connection as tethering.

I´ve replaced this phone with an older iPhone SE with iOS 13, which is now working better than iPhone X with WIFI tethering with USB tethering that actually works.

I´m writing this so that other don´t spend their valuable time trying to fix something that won´t work.

iPhone Ethernet Tethering Connectivity Issue Fix when using Linux OS

with iOS 14

An arrangement whereby an Apple iphone under iOS 13 was able to

successfully 'Tether' to a LINUX based Laptop Etc, via USB cable

between the two, has become broken under iOS 14.

SOLUTION: A Linux 'Kernel Patch' to address Apple iOS 14 software

coding changes provides a fix. Upgrading your Linux Distribution to

that distributions latest OS upgrade will likely restore former

connectivity. However, be mindful of the lag in certain Linux

distributions to adapt the latest coding and hence the necessary

patch to get this working again. I can confirm recent 'Arch' OS

worked for me (Early December 2020). LESSON: Beware of loss in

functionality when upgrading Apple iOS's. as they can often not be

wound back to previously working versions. Naturally of course, Apple

cannot be relied apon to reliably play nicely with rival Hardware.

I can confirm that this is affecting me also. I upgraded to iOS 14 on the day it was released and have not been able to tether via USB to my Netgear router running dd-wrt since that time.

I am unable to use USB tethering between my iPhone 11 Pro on iOS 14.0.1 and either Ubuntu 18 or with my Synology router.

Same problm here running manjaro and ios 14 on my iphone 8

the system is obtaining ip address,

gateway is reachable but it seems routing from gateway is not possible

I've done a lot of testing, and I'm pretty sure this will happen on all versions of Linux.

Can confirm it's also broken for Synology RT2600ac. SRM does see the iPhone via USB and connects but no traffic goes past the iPhone. Something in iOS is definitely broken with USB tethering.

I am also seeing the same thing on my end. I can confirm that iOS 13.7 USB tether worked. This is a little bit ridiculous apple especially with everyone working at home.

I can ping the iphone/router address but packets cannot reach internet.

No problem on windows nor setting up a wifi hotspot.

Same here. SUPER annoying. Any fix or workaround?

Just for clarification: USB Tethering using your iPhone (iOS14) in combination with a Netgear MR1100 M1 Nighthawk LTE Router is working?

So did I, i've asked this question to the people of linux group, and no one anwser a solution. I almost break my OS for testing this.
