iPhone 11/iOS 13 Messages App Crash

Good day all!

I've been having a problem for a few months now that's annoying but not crippling. Seemingly at random, the Messages app on my phone will crash, either while I'm using it or while it's running in the background. When the app restarts, all of my messages are missing. The list of conversations will be completely empty. If I send a new message to someone, that particular conversation will reappear in the list and all the history will be there, but the only way to bring everything back is to reboot the iPhone. The issue began back at iOS 13.5, and has persisted through every subsequent update. I've also tried restoring the phone from a backup, and that didn't help.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a known issue? Are there any fixes?

Thank you!

Hi OSCSAuburn14,

It seems you have some trouble loading Messages and we want to help.

You've taken some good steps to isolate and solve this issue thus far.

Do you use iCloud Messages?

Check to see where you save messages in Settings > [your_name] > iCloud > Messages.

Keep all your messages in iCloud - Apple Support

Let us know if that helps.
