CD player not reading discs

The CD/DVD player no longer reads discs. I have attempted to clean the CD drive and the discs are not bowed. The I Mac merely ejects the disc after fidgeting around for a minute.

I have gone through launchpad to the CD/DVD icon and asked the iMac to open iTunes when a disc is inserted but it doesn't and just ejects the disc. Any ideas?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.13

Why does my ATAPI OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H: Revision: 3AHB spit out all DVDs CDs? After pulling in the discs the drive just ejects them after a few seconds. My great running Late 2009 iMac 10,1 Model A1311 does not play any DVD, CD! I went through all the resets, credit card cleaning several times. Reinstalled system 10.10.5 no luck! Is there a preference plist for playing DVD or CD that might be corrupt? Thank you for your time and patience.

Are these commercial CDs or ones burned at home? Poor quality or damaged CDs frequently get rejected.

Does it not read both CD and DVDs.

It is entirely possible that your CD/DVD reader/ writer has failed.

Yes thats what Im afraid of.

The rest of the Computer works fine but I bought it in 2011 and so maybe bits are starting the break

Yep that is what has probably happened, buy an external CD/ DVD reader/ writer.
