I have checked the setting and display always on is selected on, theatre mode is off, I’ve restarted the phone, watch etc and the always on display still dims after a few seconds.
I see others have posted and had similar problems with this, is this a known possible software / hardware fault?

This is exactly what worked for my 6. I have tattoos and the wrist detection being on was not registering the watch being on my wrist, as usual. What this does is turn the screen off because the watch doesn’t think your wearing it and it’s saving battery. Turn this off and it works perfectly, Always On.
I am sure apple is aware of the issue fixing it is probably not on top of their list which is sad. You pay for a product and it does not work properly. There are a lot of people having this issue yet Apple will not acknowledge it.
I am having a similar issue. I am unable to get the always on feature to work. The screen turns off on its own.

Doing a reboot of the watch helped fix the problem. My watch stays on now.
Same for me. Just stopped working all of a sudden. No update. Sending it back.
I have the same issue, it just shows me a blank screen, even when I put it to charge.
I am having exactly the same issue. Always on does not work. Wake on wrist raise does not. What’s the fix?
The problem with wrist detection being turned off is that the screen never turns off so if you take it off it just sits there on and burning battery
Ahh I was not aware of that. I don’t tend to take it off to much unless charging it, however hoping apple can sort this issue ASAP the correct way.
This seems worked me and it’s back to normal. Pathetic that apple couldn't figure this out and fix for months together.

I have the exact same problem. Just noticed it, so I’m reading up on things to try. Frankly, i upgraded the watch for this single feature
any ideas for me to try?
Appreciate that advice maybe till APPLE can figure it out. I am just weary if taping a $600 watch if that makes sense. Again thanks i will try it and see if it works

Tried to see if theater mode is off or on so is off the white/gray color? Orange is theater mode on correct?
Yes orange means it’s on. My watch is working fine now I have turned it off.
