Hi, Farmerfrancis,
There is no specific feature in iMovie for adding a text watermark.
A way to do it is to create a transparency screen with the Preview app on your Mac, add the text to it, and then overlay it onto your video clips with the Picture in Picture feature of iMovie.
To make a transparency screen, take any random photo on your desktop and make a duplicate of it. Open the duplicate in the Preview app. In Preview, do an Edit/Select All, Edit/Delete. That will leave you with a transparency screen. Then, in Preview, do a Tools/Annotate/Text. A text box will appear in the transparency screen. Choose your font, size, and color, from the "A" icon in the tool bar at the top of the Preview screen. Type in your text. Save. import into iMovie. Overlay it onto your clips with the Picture in Picture feature like you would any photos. Adjust the size and position in the Picture in Picture adjustment screen.
Here's a screen shot showing how it would look when the transparency screen text is overlayed in iMovie.
The transparency looks black in the timeline until you select it and apply the Picture in Picture effect to it. Then the transparency appears.
