I have had this same issue with my 2018 iPad. It will randomly restart on certain apps. Have particularly noticed this with Apple’s own podcast app. Beyond the periodic reboots it runs smoothly and normally has no issue. I do use it daily for writing, streaming and everyday tasks, but I never have had an issue until iOS 14 was released. I reached out to Apple support because I had bought a case for my iPad with a stand from Amazon around the same time that iOS 14 was released so I thought that it could have been a case of the case I bought blocking ventilation, etc. I switched back to my old case and was not having any issue. I put on the Apple podcast app so I could fall asleep listening to something tonight and after twenty minutes, the iPad rebooted again randomly.
I had gone through the trouble shooting with Apple support, battery is fine and the iPad is usually plugged in anyway. Memory is fine as I only have 28gb of 128gb used on my iPad. So everything indicates it is software/firmware related. Apple support suggested I reach out to their sales team about a new case with a kickstand. I plan on doing that, but hopefully they can fix this annoying bug because I have no other issues otherwise and I’m not interested in buying a battery that I do not need or a new device when this can be solved with a firmware update. Hope they can fix it.
