Watch with braided loop does not record heart rate when swimming

I have worn an Apple Watch whilst swimming ever since they became waterproof. Every time it always recorded my average heart rate. I ordered the new braided loop which arrived 4 days ago. Since then the watch no longer records my heart rate. Anybody else experienced this?

The watch fits just as snuggly as the strap does but I have to assume there is something in how it fits that causes the failure. I know Apple say the watch may not record heart rate when swimming but mine has always done so until now.

I wonder what others’ experiences have been?

I add more to my own post in case it is of use to others.

After IOS 7.0 my watch stopped providing an average heart rate when swimming. It had never happened before. It has happened with my Apple Watch 4 and now my Apple Watch 6 so it seems it is software related. This morning I tightened the strap more than I usually do. Perhaps a little tighter than is comfortable for every day use as before. My watch produced an average heart rate reading. Thus it seems it is software related, as it happens on two different versions of the watch, and perhaps the sensitivity of the heart rate monitor has been changed in the IOS. I have reported it to Apple but if a reader has the same issue it seems tightening the strap may be a cure.
