iCloud and iCloud Archive

Dear Forum,

if i go to my root dir 'andihawes', i see the iCloud folder set 'iCloud Drive [Archive]' and this folder srt has not been used for 18 months, but if i go to my sidebar, the iCloud Drive is my live iCloud folders and a different set of folders.

Any ideas how this has happened?

In the discussion you wrote -

today i seem to have both. So under my root dir in my images, so 'andihawes', i have 'iCloud Drive '[Archive]', but in my sidebar below under 'iCloud', the iCloiud drive is the current non-archived one. I dont need the Archive as i have a current one. How do i get the current iCloud back under 'andihawes'?

if you open system preferences > iCloud and uncheck the box of iCloud Drive a pop up window appears , showing to keep a copy of documents , and remove from the Mac .

( a ) if you had clicked on keep a copy , they will be archived in home folder that can be viewed by clicking on finder in the dock , take cursor on top menu bar > Go > Home > your user name > iCloud Drive ( Archive ) .

This is optional , users archive the iCloud documents , if some thing goes wrong they can again bring back these documents ( select the desired documents hold shift key and tap them , copy use command and C keys and paste use command and V keys ) over to location , finder > iCloud > in Documents --you have to paste over Documents folder .

Note : make sure iCloud drive and desktops and documents box is always turned as on see the article https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mac-help/mchle5a61431/10.14/mac/10.14

If iCloud Drive box is unchecked double click on it , it will show setting up a circle rotates the box gets checked .

Hello mumbles2701,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having a question about the difference between the iCloud Drive, and iCloud Archive folders. we'd be haas to clear things up.

"If you turn off iCloud Drive or sign out of iCloud, you have the option to keep a local copy of your files that are in iCloud Drive. Whether you decide to keep a local copy or not, a new Desktop and Documents folder is created in your home folder. If you choose to keep a local copy, your files in iCloud Drive are copied to a folder called iCloud Drive (Archive) in your home folder. Then you have the option to move any files that were in your iCloud Desktop and Documents, back to your new local Desktop and Documents."

Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive

We hope this information is useful. Kind regards.
