Text takes over

So I am trying to compose a photo with my iPad. Suddenly a text intrudes. It takes over and freezes up the camera until I do something with the text. Is there some setting so that when I am taking a picture the camera stays active and all other apps are somehow in the background and unknown to me until I finish the photo?

I think that the only thing you can do is invoke Do Not Disturb in the Control Center (crescent moon icon) before starting your photo shoot.
