survive macbook air 10,3

i have old macbook air that i think it belongs to 2010, its os is 10.6.8. I've lost my password. my user is still usable. I tried to make a bootable usb disk via linux from later verision of macos

I have to press ALT key while powering up the device. a list will apear but there is not my usb listed

I searched a lot and all the people say to press the "command + shift + R" to go to recovery option to reset every new device, but ther would be a screen for inputing password

can I survive this device? I have no access to anything. sudo is not working. changing password is demand on old password

Boot from the 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD. Check the Utilities or "Tools" menu where there should be an entry for resetting the password.

FYI, in order to have access to Recovery Mode or Internet Recovery Mode you need to have macOS 10.13 installed (Recovery Mode became available with OSX 10.7, but Internet Recovery Mode is only available with macOS 10.12.6+).

Once you reset the user account password try downloading and creating a bootable macOS 10.11 El Capitan USB drive using these instructions:

After installing macOS 10.11, then you can upgrade to macOS 10.13 High Sierra.

I don't know if OSX 10.6 will permit you to create the bootable USB drive or not, but it is worth a try. If it is not possible to create the bootable USB drive, then you would need to first purchase & install OSX 10.7 Lion before being able to upgrade to later versions of macOS.

Edit: I highly recommend you have a good system backup before attempting to upgrade to a later version of macOS.
