iMac27 2019 - G-Technology 5 TB ArmorATD, External Hard Drive - USB-C, Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.0

Hi,

I am an occasional filmmaker so I have a lot of video footage HD and 4k. I use the above external disk for storage ans editing. is it normal that 30 GB takes 25 minutes to transfer? I thought that Thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 3 should be very fast. any enlightenment would be appreciated.

Well, TB3 is pretty fast but you are dealing with an external HDD, not an SSD, at the other end of the cable. Did you think the HDD would just speed up? About the fastest the HDD can transfer data across its interface is maybe 120MBps. I think the transfer speed you are experiencing is quite normal - roughly 70GBs/hour.
