Macbook air error code Couldn’t open device. : (-69877)

Hi Community,

I am trying to format my hard drive and do a factory reset on my laptop. This is because I am giving it to my little brother but when I attempt to erase/format. It keeps giving me error code (Couldn’t open device. : (-69877))

Help is must appreciated hoping to have it set up for him by wednesday.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

We understand you're trying to erase your Mac. We're happy to help.

From the image you attached, it looks like the computer is just started normally. To erase the hard drive you would need to start the computer in recovery mode first.
