Cant update macOS catalina 10.15.7

Before trying Option 2 try to restart manually.

Option 2:

1. Download this full update https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2052
2. Install package (run pkg, follow insrttuction)
3. Restart manually iff it not happened.

Manually Download the Catalina Combo Update. Once downloaded - stop there. Restart the computer in Safe Mode ( Shift key at Startup). If using on laptop make sure it is being charged. Safe Mode will load slower but give it time. Once logged in run the installer. It may reboot several time until all is done.

The requirements for a successful update is 20+ GB Free Space. Anything less will not allow it to happen. As perviously suggested, the system requires a clean up.

If you go to Apple Logo, and then About this Mac and then on Storage tab you can see some but not all of what is using space. While in there, look at Reduce Clutter >> Manage you may find some large files that can be removed.

Good Point you make GordioUA !! The macOS will require at least 20+ GB of free space for the update to install.

Outside of this, for the computer to run good and not have to create Swipe Files all the time, need to keep approximately 15% of the total HD / SSD capacity empty.

I am struggling with the same issue. Can't get the 10.15.7 to install... Have no clue why it's not working. I have more than enough space (25GB free). What do you mean by App Cleaners? I have Clean My Mac installed and running...

Hi, thanks for that. I am just not sure how that would be relevant. Had the app cleaner software for years and it has never been an issue. In fact it has helped my Mac run much smoother. I find it hard to believe it can 'destroy' the operating system. If so, then how exactly?

It identifies System File at are required to operate the macOS Properly and then offer the user the option to delete them. If your system has worked successfully for years, you are one of the lucky ones. Roll the dice is you want to.

Am I the only person to find it frustrating that Apple should assume that mere mortals have 20gb of space sitting around unused on their Mac to be able to do an update (25% of my working memory after system and 'other' have taken their share)? I struggle to manage 2gb spare at the best of times and am constantly having to move key files off my machine (and later back on again) in order to download updates. I realise now that I should have invested in more memory, but who knew how much memory Apple would want for itself? Grrr.

I am on 10.15.6 trying to update.

I have over 400GB of free space. MacBook 2019

I click on update and it downloads. It reads as fully downloaded, flutters and then returns to the "Download and Install" language. Nothing else happens. No errors. No restart. No acknowledgement that anything downloaded. Just an rat in a cage, repeatedly pulling a lever, expecting my treat.

On my MacBookAir free storage is 25.19 GB of 121.12 GB. Despite having cleaned and rebooted several times upgrade from macOS Catalina Version 10.15.5. to latest 10.15.7. does NOT work.

Is there a way to update? Or is this a hidden manoeuvre to make me change laptop ?

I went to that support link. The update does not download from there to my Mac either. I have 8GB of memory available, so I do not think that is the issue. Is there something else that I can try?

8GB is not enough for update. Clean up you system. And try again
