After the update Catalina 10.15.7 have problems with the Internet connection

Hello!

After yesterday's MAC OS Catalina 10.15.7 update, today I had a problem with the WiFI connection.

The connection is excellent, the icon shows that everything is fine, but the Internet periodically disappears. Yesterday, after the update, I did not notice any problems. Today it started, it's impossible to work, after turning off and turning on WiFi, the Internet works for 5-10 minutes and then problems again.

There were no such problems before the update.

I have an Airport Express router (firmware 7.81). Rebooting the router, resetting the settings does not help.

No problem with other devices like PS4, TV, Windows laptops.

Next to the Macbook is an old DELL XPS running Windows - Wi-Fi and internet are great, no problem.

PS: Iphone is experiencing similar issues after updating to 14.0.1.

For the first time in 10 years of using Apple devices, I faced such a problem. When nearby old Windows laptops are working fine and new Apple devices are not working (((

Please help. At the moment, the devices cannot work stably due to these problems.

Thanks!

Same issue on iMac Pro, running 10.15.7. Have noticed that periodically throughout the day the WiFi connection will just drop off, and then not automatically reconnect at any time. Have to manually go back to the list and select our network. I also have an Ethernet connection running at the same time. We've confirmed that everything is working consistently on our overall network so it seams software related.

Hi!

I have noticed this issue too, and so just added below my setup in case it helps anyone:

MacBook Pro (2016) and I have a Google Nest Wifi at home (Vodafone is internet provider) and BT modem in the office.

I also had downloaded Norton Small Business recently and so I thought this was the issue, as all other devices connect to the internet fine.

However, after further testing and using another Mac (with an older OS on it), I found that it connected to the internet fine.

What I have noticed is that on the latest Mac OS, I cannot connect to the internet via my Google Nest Wifi, but I can connect fine if I use the internet providers modem. All other devices are able to connect using the Google Nest Wifi (including the Mac with the older OS), so by implication, I think the cause is the latest Mac OS rather than Norton or anything else.

Hope this may help others.

Hi I am having the same problem too. Everything worked fine until my Mac updated the other night and since then it keeps losing the wifi (even though the wifi is running on all other gadgets). It also keeps freezing when I try to open google chrome or safari, and doesn’t allow me to open Finder or the settings very often. No matter how many times I try and restart it, it begins again with the same problems.

is there a way to revert back to the previous update? Or is there something else I can do to help fix this? Please help!

I just upgraded to 10.15.7 today and as soon as I did I was no longer able to establish an SSH connection to my linux servers. When I try to connect, both servers respond with "Permission denied, please try again." I know I am using the correct password because I can connect easily with another 'Non Mac' computer. I've tried clearing the linux machines from the /.ssh/known_hosts file to establish a fresh connection. This did not help. I’m curious if anyone else has had this problem, and if there is a solution.

I tried this video’s guidance and it’s not working for me. I think this is clearly a software issue with the 10.15.7 update. It’s very frustrating that there hasn’t been a solution from Apple since the issue is now at least a couple weeks old. I can’t work properly without my computer being able to connect to the internet. 😡

macOS Catalina 10.15.7 Dropping WiFi

Sep 26, 2020 macOS 10.15.7 update, Xcode 12.0.1 update.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) dropping personal router multiple times per day.

Never happened prior to the update.

I don’t know if this is the solution but so far it is working (five days and counting).

My network preferences were out of order. I moved my personal network to the top.

Go into System Preferences ->  Network ->  Advanced.

Reorder your networks to most preferred to least preferred (ex. personal network first, business network second, etc.)

I recommend not auto-joining insecure networks.

I have turned off auto-joining XFINITY (secure) for now. I have a strong signal from my personal router and the XFINITY network.  Maybe that relates to the macOS 10.15.7 update (ie confused).

This issue has been plaguing me too. Just randomly browsing the internet stops, through safari and chrome. Everything else continues to work, like sending emails, Skype messages etc

Unfortunately turning the WIFI on and off doesn't work, and I've even deleted it and re-added it in the advanced options. It's a full reboot for it to work again

Now for the apple purists. Yes I have AVG anti virus, F5 VPN and AVG VPN and the reason is that I need an antivirus client to get on to the company network. The deal here is that I had no problems with this setup in 10.15.6

I have a Mac book pro early 2015 so any advice would be welcomed

Hey there! This may not be the cause for you, but I have seen Tunnelblick cause similar troubles after updating. It maybe worth uninstalling it, (Which usually removes the files from the locations in the report but may not), and if there, removing it from your Network Interfaces (System Preferences > Network (Left column)), and I’d remove all those login items as well from System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Items, restart and test. I posted some other steps earlier, but this issue doesn’t seem like an all in one fix, but takes some isolation.

There are several issues that the report shows.

The report took 11 minutes, which is darned slow, and a strong indication that the drive may be failing.

[And even if it's not: if you replace it with an SSD, it is like having a new mac...]

Major Issues:
Anything that appears on this list needs immediate attention.
No Time Machine backup - Time Machine backup not found.
Battery failure - Your battery is reporting that it needs to be serviced.
Failing hard drive - This computer has a hard drive that appears to be failing.
Gatekeeper disabled - Gatekeeper security protection is disabled. This computer is at risk of malware infection.
Apple security disabled - Apple security software is disabled. This computer is at risk of malware infection.

Why disable the built-in security?

It is unclear how any of that may relate to the wifi problem, though.

I don't see anything in terms of kernel extensions that would explain it, but just in case, you could test restarting your mac in Safe Mode, and see if the Wifi problem on waking from sleep still occurs in Safe Mode or not.

Why is system security disabled?

From the report:

Major Issues:

Anything that appears on this list needs immediate attention.

Runaway process - A process is using a large percentage of your CPU.

Gatekeeper disabled - Gatekeeper security protection is disabled. This computer is at risk of malware infection.

Apple security disabled - Apple security software is disabled. This computer is at risk of malware infection.

Also, you should probably update VirtualBox (now at 6.1.14, you have 6.1.2), although I don't think that has to do with the wifi problem.

After the update Catalina 10.15.7 have problems with the Internet connection
