After the update Catalina 10.15.7 have problems with the Internet connection

Hello!

After yesterday's MAC OS Catalina 10.15.7 update, today I had a problem with the WiFI connection.

The connection is excellent, the icon shows that everything is fine, but the Internet periodically disappears. Yesterday, after the update, I did not notice any problems. Today it started, it's impossible to work, after turning off and turning on WiFi, the Internet works for 5-10 minutes and then problems again.

There were no such problems before the update.

I have an Airport Express router (firmware 7.81). Rebooting the router, resetting the settings does not help.

No problem with other devices like PS4, TV, Windows laptops.

Next to the Macbook is an old DELL XPS running Windows - Wi-Fi and internet are great, no problem.

PS: Iphone is experiencing similar issues after updating to 14.0.1.

For the first time in 10 years of using Apple devices, I faced such a problem. When nearby old Windows laptops are working fine and new Apple devices are not working (((

Please help. At the moment, the devices cannot work stably due to these problems.

Thanks!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Hi!

So I may have found the issue. I was online with a tech from Apple, shout-out Sarah, and we determined that my Norton 360 anti-malware software was causing the issue. It is most likely due to an incompatibility between the recent update 10.15.7. If you have Norton installed on your computer this could be the issue, however this could be the case with any anti-malware software that isn't recommended by Apple. I have removed Norton from my computer and the issue seems to be resolved. If this helps please let me know!

P.S: I will be reinstalling Norton as soon as an update is available and fixes the bug.

Hey again!

Did you happen to try my steps to reset the System Config preferences? I’d give that a shot if you haven’t yet, considering what you’ve done so far, I typically do that as a last step, (Although sometimes I wished I’d have just done that from the get go and saved my self time).

Anyhow, the same does happen for you in recovery mode? That usually indicates an issue with either the hardware, or the network, (Even if the router needs a firmware update just to communicate with one particular device), as you are booted from the recovery partition not the startup partition at all.

May also be a good idea to run a HW diagnostic to be sure and rule that out, (Although it doesn’t always find everything, it’s pretty comprehensive):

Run HW Diagnostics:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202731

Some may reject this saying “it worked just fine before the update” but sometimes an update unveils an already existing HW problem. Hope that’s not the case, (Usually not). Cheers.

Hi Guys,

I had this problem and then I downloaded MacOS Big Sur, which then crashed my MacBook Pro!! Ha!

So I had to then restore to factory settings, install Big Sur again, BUT now I can connect to my private Google Nest Wifi network and have no issues with internet connectivity.

I know wiping your machine is not ideal, but I think this must have removed the cause of the problem for me.

(I have a MacBook Pro 2016)

Hope this helps!

The point is you and thousands of other Catalina 13.15.7 (and iOS 14.x) users should never have to be concerned with dropped WiFi connections in the first place and have to constantly reconnect.

I’ve done an extensive analysis of multiple WiFi environments and my findings conclude that Apple has either made a significant undisclosed change to its WiFi networking OS code (MacOS and iOS) or they’ve screwed up the common WiFi driver (common between MacOS & iOS). In either case, we premium-paying Apple customers are now entering our 4 month with garbage WiFi connectivity and Apple has failed to admit to and take responsibility for it!!

I have a similar problem.

Fresh install (not update) of macOS Catalina 10.15.7 with all latest patches/updates.

No changes whatsoever to my router. All my other devices (iPhones, old PCs, even a Santa Rosa Macbook Pro) can all connect to my network. However since migrating my MacBook Pro mid-2012 to Catalina, the wifi connects (with difficulties) and then drops.

Sometimes it makes me believe it is connected but clicking on the wifi icon up in the bar refreshes it and the signal appears dropped anyway.

I can turn off and turn on again the wifi. It finds the network, and then the signal drops to 1-2 bars out of 4 in 5 seconds. I have to sit next to the router to have a decent usable signal and even then only 3 bars of signal out of 4.

I have tried everything: changing network location/configuration, reboot, removing and adding back the wifi connection. Nothing fixes it.

I used to be in the garden with my MacBook Pro...My computer isn't compatible with BigSur and works like a charm.

Apple, please fix this.

Definitely not related to internet provider. As I personally detailed above, my Macbook Pro Santa Rosa (on OSX El Capitan) connects fine. All my other devices in the house (PCs and phones) connect fine.

My Macbook Pro mid-2012 was on High Sierra before I decided to wipe it and install Catalina freshly.

Since: crap wifi on this laptop only.

I haven't changed the set of softwares I use or anything else. So it's definitely a macOS Catalina 10.15.7 issue.

You are bound to be disappointed. Sticking your head in the sand and deciding it is the update and not troubleshooting is your right, of course.

You surely have other third party software there, possibly some that are actually causing the problem.

Etrecheck does not modify anything. It just produces a report that has helped solve hundreds of issues-just browse this forum. It is used dozens of times each day, so others like me can have any information on which to advise those, like you, who come here for help. Ir not

Same issue on iMac Pro, running 10.15.7. Have noticed that periodically throughout the day the WiFi connection will just drop off, and then not automatically reconnect at any time. Have to manually go back to the list and select our network. I also have an Ethernet connection running at the same time. We've confirmed that everything is working consistently on our overall network so it seams software related.

Why is system security disabled?

From the report:

Major Issues:

Anything that appears on this list needs immediate attention.

Runaway process - A process is using a large percentage of your CPU.

Gatekeeper disabled - Gatekeeper security protection is disabled. This computer is at risk of malware infection.

Apple security disabled - Apple security software is disabled. This computer is at risk of malware infection.

Also, you should probably update VirtualBox (now at 6.1.14, you have 6.1.2), although I don't think that has to do with the wifi problem.

First of all, sorry, this is going to be very unhelpful post.

"For the first time in 10 years of using Apple devices, I faced such a problem."

You have been so lucky. In the 14 years I have been using Apple products, the quality has been going down like Mr. Titanic after meeting with Mr. Berg. Catalina is super bad OS, and only way to fix it, is to revert to Mojave.

It's not worth waiting for fix, as Apple is not interested in fixing any problems. They just want us to buy new hardware. (Check the kernel panic issues, not fix even in .7 release.) Well, I did buy new Hardware, because my old (2013) Mac started to panic daily. And also Windows Licence, I paid about one third about what similarly specced Apple product would have been, and got better graphics performance into the bargain. I'd really want to like Apple, but I cannot, because their products currently are ****. Nothing has worked in Catalina. I got two Macs (iMac and MacBook) and there are same problems with both.
