Macbook air stuck at startup

Hi,

I’m having a weird issue. Suddenly my Mac stopped working. When I start it I have that weird screen showing me a mouse like it can’t connect to a mouse. The only thing is I’ve never used or connected one. The trackpad is unresponsive but I can’t get out of that screen anyway. I tried to reset NVRAM and SMC unsuccessfully. I can’t seem to be able to start in recovery mode either. Any idea what the issue might be? Thank you.

Hi christophefromshoreline,

We understand that your Mac isn't starting up all the way, and it sounds like your Mac's trackpad isn't being recognized. We're here for you, and we want to help.

You mentioned that you're unable to start the Mac up from macOS Recovery as well; can you let us know more about what happens when you try? For example, do you see the same mouse setup screen, or something else?

Are you able to start your Mac up normally from safe mode? More about using safe mode here: Start up your Mac in safe mode

Do you have an external mouse you could try using with your Mac? If so, are you able to continue starting up and use your Mac normally when an external mouse is connected?

In the meantime, this page has some great information on what to do if a mouse or trackpad doesn't work as expected: If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn't working with your Mac as expected

Thanks!
