iOS 14 completely broke my watch

Watch app on phone no longer functioning after install of 10s 14. Reinstalled app. Wiped watch and rebooted. Now, no longer wants to re-pair at all to iPhone 7 after ios14 install. Watch is non functioning much the same as the activity app which also no longer functions and is greyed out.

This is a debacle.

Apple Store: we have no idea. Maybe the engineers will fix it.

Apple community: wipe your phone and factory reset...oh, that doesn’t work either.

So I have a half functioning phone and a completely non functioning watch. Not one of Apple’s greatest moments.

Hanratty M,

Thanks so much for providing those details; they're very helpful.

We'd like to continue working on the issue with the Apple Watch not pairing to your iPhone. Once we get that sorted out, we'll touch back on the issue with the Fitness app on your iPhone.

Moving forward on the issue with the Apple Watch not pairing to the iPhone, please complete the following steps, and test the issue after each step has been completed.

  1. If you haven't done so already, please try setting up the Apple Watch as new instead of from a backup: Set up and pair your Apple Watch with iPhone
  2. Please forget the Wi-Fi network the iPhone is connected to, then reconnect: How to forget a Wi-Fi network on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac
  3. Make sure the date and time are set correctly on your iPhone, as outlined here: If you can’t change the time or time zone on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
  4. If you're using a VPN or security software on your iPhone, please try temporarily disabling it: VPN settings overview for Apple devices
  5. On the iPhone, please go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, and let us know if you see an Apple Watch software update displayed there. If you do see an update listed there, please swipe left to delete it.
  6. Reset the Apple Watch using the steps on this page: If you forgot your Apple Watch passcode
  7. Delete and reinstall the Apple Watch app on the iPhone using the following steps, if it is currently installed: How to delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
  8. Temporarily disconnect (but don't unpair) any other Bluetooth accessories that are connected to your iPhone.
  9. Try connecting your iPhone to another network, then try pairing your iPhone and Apple Watch again.
  10. If the issue is still unresolved, please reset the network settings by using the steps under the "Reset your Network Settings" part of this page: If you see No Service or Searching on your iPhone or iPad

Thank you!

Hello Hanratty M,

It sounds like the Apple Watch app wasn't working on your iPhone, so you reinstalled the app, and unpaired the Apple Watch and iPhone, and it won't pair again now. Is that right? We're here for you, and we want to help.

Since you mentioned that this happened after updating, can you confirm if your iPhone is currently running iOS 14 at this time, or if you updated to iOS 14.0.1? Find the software version on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

Can you let us know more about what happens when you try to pair your Apple Watch to your iPhone now? For example, are you seeing a specific error message? If so, what does the error say?

If you're unable to pair your Apple Watch and iPhone, the steps and information on this page may help: If your Apple Watch isn't connected or paired with your iPhone

Take care!

Hello!

  1. Eveything was working fine
  2. Installed ios 14 and also installed the update
  3. Fitness app just greyed out, no longer registers anything
  4. Watch app, no longer speaks with watch to change faces BUT some app notifications still coming through.
  5. Uninstalled Fitness app and reinstalled
  6. Uninistalled watch app and reinstalled.
  7. No fix
  8. Next, wiped watch app completely to factory settings and unpaired watch app from phone. This was a mistake.
  9. Cannot re-pair. Watch does not identify itself : it cannot be seen in the app to pair with the phone.
  10. Now left with a watch that cannot pair with the phone and is useless and a phone where the Fitness app does not work.
  11. Apple Watch 3 and iPhone 7 running all the latest updates.

Thats the sad story.

Cheers
