Has anyone else experienced significant delays in texting since updating to ios14? I will start to text several words and it’s as if the messaging app freezes and none of the words appear for a few seconds, then they all appear at once.

Have you reset your network settings?
Go to Settings - General - Reset -Reset Network Settings.
This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

I have also experience this issue and find it quite frustrating. I've not had a chance to speak to the IT guy, but I'm sure it's an issue with the update itself. Hopefully, they get it resolved soon.
UPDATE: I did what was suggested by another person and reset the network settings. It already seems to be working smoother. Praise the Lord!
Go to settings and pull down on the screen to show the search bar. Type “network” and you should see “reset network settings.” Select that and then select “reset network settings” again. It will ask for your passcode and want you to confirm that is what you want to do. It will restart your phone. Once it restarts, your settings have been reset.
Ok. Then try this:
settings-messages- turn it off for a few seconds, then back on.
do the same for the FaceTime.
settings-FaceTime- Turn off few seconds, then on.
then restart phone, and see if this fixes it.
Spoke with Apple Support. Known issue for some with iOS14.
iOS 14.0.1 is supposed to fix it but I'm on 14.0.1.
Suggestion was to do a full phone backup, OS reset and restore via iTunes, which for the person I 'spoke' with, happened to them also and was fixed with the reset and restore.

I’ve done the reset things several times. It’s a temporary fix before it start the delay typing. I had hopes that IOS 14.1 would fix this, but it didn’t. I also have to turn my iPhone SE sideways to text a link. It will not text a link in the usual vertical position. I wish I could reverse 14.
Since my last update IOS14, I have found that not only do I experience delayed texting, but most of my applications reverted back to default. I have had to reset nearly everything again - just when I had the text/ font at the size I preferred, the sound on everything was finally where I wanted it - and now I can't hear properly even with head phones on and the volume turned up full. I have spoken to others who have iPhones and they too have experienced similar. WHY? What is the point of having a damned phone if you can't hear people speaking, hear the music, hear anything actually?
I also reset my network settings. That resolved the slow text issue for about a day, and now it’s returned. It’s so frustrating to have to type and then wait several seconds for what you’ve typed to appear before you can review and then send it. I wish I had never downloaded the latest update. I’ve had other issues, too, but this one issue of extremely slow texting is lingering.
I have reset network settings. But the issue still occurs. Turning the phone off and on again works, but the problem shows back up again after some time. Something seems to be triggering it. On my phone at least. Just not sure what...
Yea resetting network only works temporarily and then back to the lag! It’s crazy how Apple is t fixing this. Possibly another tactic to buy a newer iPhone like they did with the slowing down of devices?!

I receive some messages with a couple of hours to a day delay! I have reset my Network Settings which worked for a week and the problem disappeared but again the problem has shown up! could you tell me what the problem is? I am really disappointed.

Same problem. I think it’s apples attempt to make us think our phones are slow and need upgrading. Pretty clunky apple!!! Also have a massive delay in voice calls on my Apple Watch now a few years old. Basically if you don’t buy new apple products every year then you have to suffer these slow down issues!!
You need more speed to download more ads. To buy more products that are slow. Has phone technology really improved that much over the last five years...? If Apple’s biggest ad campaign revolves around selling cordless phones, I think not. This company died with Steve.
I have tried restarting my phone and still have the problem. I am thinking it might be a bug in the new iOS version and I have reported it to Apple.
We are users just like you. We are not Apple.
