accountsd high cpu (300%)

I have a new 13" MacBook Pro 2020 (just a few weeks old) and sometimes when I turn it on, the fans start to go full blast and Activity Monitor shows that a process called "accountsd" is using more than 340% CPU. I can temporary fix this issue by restarting, but at some point the issue occurs again.

I have read on a few forums that it probably has something to do with the Mail app but I have never used it.

I tried reseting my default keychains, but that did not solve the issue.

Could someone help me, please?

Hi br0kenpixel,

It seems you're having trouble with usage from the Mail app and we can help.

Try starting to safe mode and see if you have the same issue:

Let us know if that helps you to isolate the issue.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

There seem to have been a lot of complaints about this problem: accountsd process 500% CPU in Catalina 10.15.7.

Some have reported installing the latest "Combo" update solved it: Download macOS Catalina 10.15.7 Combo Update.

"Safe Mode" may also be instructive, but the problem may return.

Just had the same issue on my iMac. On the Activity Monitor, it was running System 25%, User 70% and Idle 5%, accountsd 300%, fan screeming. Chatted with Apple Support and they told me to run diagnostic, then shut down, start in Safe Mode. Then shut down again and start normally. And everything was fine!
