iPod Shuffle (1st generation) not recognized by iTunes and not playing music.

I have a 1st generation iPod Shuffle that suddenly stopped playing music. When I turn it on, I see a green light up for 2 seconds and then turn off. No music would start playing. When I press play/pause, a solid green light comes on for 1 minute and turns off. Still no music. When I connect to iTunes, the iPod icon appears for a split second in the top right left hand corner and goes away. My PC then recognizes it as a 1 GiB USB drive. I've tried connecting it to another PC running the version of iTunes included with the iPod and it still won't recognize the iPod. I am running iTunes ver. 12.10.9.3

UPDATE: I connected my iPod to my Mac Mini which detected that the software version was corrupted. A simple restore fixed the problem.
