iPhone not backing up to cloud with 3.8 gigs of space empty

I keep getting a message that my phone can't be backed up because there isn't enough storage. When I go to iCloud Storage in my phone, it says 1.2GB of 5GB used. I don't know why it is telling me this.

After you check to see how much iCloud Storage you have, try these steps to complete your backup:

  1. Upgrade your iCloud storage plan.
  2. Reduce the size of your backup.
  3. Delete any data that you don't need.
  4. If you still need help, contact Apple Support.
