USB Audio drops until unpluged

I am new to macs - and have just hooked my first mac mini up to my scarlett 2i4 audio controller via usb. No issues, it works until the mini goes to sleep - when I bring it back up by entering my password, the lights on the scarlett flash, but the sound does not work.

I simply unplug the usb cable from the mac and plug it back in, and it works again for the session.

Is there a way to set this so that I don't have to manually unplug/replug the cable?

Have you tried enabling “Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off”?

I have to agree hcsitas on this one. Just let the display sleep and only sleep the computer when your not going to be using it for a day or two.
