iPad keeps playing random ringtone

Hi,

I have an IPad Pro 11’ 2018 model, running iOS 13.7.

I always notice it play a ringtone (specifically the “silk” ringtone) several times over the past few months. It’s so rare and there doesn’t seem to be a pattern to it. But the most recent occurrence was when I was on the safari and mail app. I never pressed on anything to create that sound. It just happens so unexpectedly.

All my alarms are turned off and I can’t think of anything I did to create that sound. It kind of worries me because there might be something running in the background.

I don’t close my apps when I’m done using them since iOS apparently pauses them for me. But I’m not sure if that’s the cause.

Please let me know if there are any ideas to where it is coming from.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand your concern about your iPad playing random ringtone, and we'd be happy to look into this with you.

To get started, let's check if this ringtone was set as the notification sound for incoming emails from specific contacts. Navigate to Settings > Notifications > Mail, and check your notifications settings there.

This ringtone maybe also caused by a third-party app installed on your iPad. We understand that it will be a lot of work to go through all installed apps on your device to check their settings, or even remove, and install them one at a time then test this behavior.

In the meantime, we'd recommend keeping your iPad up-to-date on software. 14.0.1 was recently released, so if you haven’t updated to that, let’s do so now.
