Battery life

Since I updated my iPod, generation 7, to version14 the battery life has dropped to an hour and it I have it on airplane mode. The iPod also heats up as it is recharging. Is this a hardware or software problem?

Hello scarlettfromrichmond hill,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand your concern about your iPod's battery life, and getting warmer than expected after updating. We'd be happy to look into this with you.

Do you use a protective case on your iPod? If so, does removing it help? Are you receiving any type of temperature alert such as the one shown here:

Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures

Next, tap Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and let us know the Maximum Capacity % you see displayed there.

iOS 14.0.1 was recently released, and we do recommend updating iOS along with confirming your applications are up-to-date.

If iOS and your apps are up-to-date, please utilize the tips outlined in the following article and use your device as normal for 24-48 hours.

Let us know if you experience any improvement in the battery life. We look forward to hearing back from you!

Cheers.
