Mac can’t turn on

My MacBook Pro was getting slow and laggy so I decided to restart it. When it shut down it gave me the screen with the low battery symbol. I found that weird because it was charging before I restarted. I let it charge for a while and it’s still giving me the same screen? it says that it’s charging but it just won’t turn on is there any fix to this without going to the apple store to get it replaced?
