Inability to Upgrade to Watchos 7.0.1

I'm on an apple watch, series 3, watchos 7.0 (18R382). Can't update to version 7.0.1. Having this inability since release date. The update is normally (and fully) downloaded to the watch. However, in the end, it pops up a message saying "it wasn't possible to verify the update", then "the watchos update couldn't be verified because there is no connected to the internet" [translated the message for it's on portuguese]. Don't understand that, because the update is fully downloaded (so there has to be a internet connection active), my iPhone is obviously connected (even tried with diferente Wi-Fi) and so is me watch (also tried with different Wi-Fis). PS.: tried turning on and off several times, even formatted (with backup then)

OK, this finally worked for me with new series 6 on an Eero mesh network. I had to pause my 5GHz network by using the Eero app (Settings>Troubleshooting>My device won't connect...) This pauses 5 GHz and switches network to 2.4 GHz for 15 minutes.

1) Now turn off iPhone

2) On Apple Watch go into settings > General> Software Update and Install 7.0.2 using watch alone (on charging dock)

3) Wait 15 to 20 minutes while watch is on its dock

4) Et viola, the watch finally updated to 7.0.2

It looks like the key for me was letting the watch alone do it, but on a 2.4 GHz wifi network.

What a pain!

Worked last night finally after 2 days of trying. I, also, didn’t have to do any trickery. It just updated as it’s supposed to. My guess is that it was a server-side issue at Apple that is now fixed.

My 2 cents for anyone still struggling would be to just wait it out, stop unpairing and resetting things, and save yourself the frustration & precious time that you’ll never get back. I’ll bet if I had gotten my new watch 2 days later I would probably have never had a problem.

It doesn't work for me either .I've been tried to unpair it and pair it with a brand new Iphone 11 which we bought just a week ago.

The result is the same. I guess the watch does the update independently from the phone. The phone just gets the status data via Bluetooth . I'm stuck on 7.0.0 and can't update period. I've been in touch with two Apple representatives. They concluded that the watch has Wifi issues and suggested forward the watch for inspection as I have apple care available. I guess the root of the issues is Apple's servers or some significant bug in the watch firmware.

Are you upgrading the same time you finished upgrading your OS ? I upgraded my OS yesterday and then tried updating my watchos. I got this verification error. Tried multiple times yesterday but it never went through. Today morning did the same and it just worked. Does it have to do something with the time at which the OS upgraded. Its looking at some date and on that date it is still the old OS version.

The very same thing is happening to me! The update is downloaded to the watch. First, I get the: "it wasn't possible to verify the update", then "the update couldn't be verified because the phone is not connected to the internet". My phone is on the internet! I have also tried turning my watch off and on again. Frustrating! I am stuck, too. Nice to know not alone here.

Same issue with me my wife version is on 7.0.1 trying to upgrade to 7.0.2 keep getting error message saying cant update because not connected to internet.

Here is what I have done so far:

. reset my network settings on my iPhone

. set up apple watch as new

. tried updating software from watch directly

I have also spoke to apple and they have advised to go see someone at the apple store to run further tests. I have got another watch that is a series 4 and that updated no problem at all.

If anyone has a fix for this please let me know!

Just an update i have tried un pairing my watch and pairing it with another phone that my 44mm is working on and still the same problem. Having tried everything i presume its a software fault as apple check my device for hardware fault and the watch come back passing all tests. I do have a genius appointment booked in for this Sunday so i will update once spoken to them.
