My Airpods randomly disconnect from my Macbook Pro

My Airpods will connect to my iPhone perfectly. However, for the past few days when I try connecting them to my Macbook Pro they either say they are connected but then sound plays from the computer speakers not my Airpods. Also they will randomly disconnect from my Macbook Pro when I am trying to play sound out of them. I have tried reconnecting them to my Macbook Pro and have also tried resetting my Airpods.
