FCPX Proxy Files: I can't transcode media

Hi,

I am importing files with selected "Create Optimized Media" and "Proxy Media". When I open my event and select "Proxy Files", it says I'm missing Proxy files. When I go to File - Transcode Media, it doesn't give me the option to create those files. Does anybody know how I can fix this? see attached

Relinking Proxy files? Has FCPX worked out how to relink Proxy files? Last night I captured a score of shots. This morning they were unlinked for some reason. It was easy to relink the Final Cut Original Media. But I'm not even trying to relink the Proxy as memory has it that it's impossible. But maybe something has changed in the last iteration of FCPX? And I don't want to have to re-generate all the Proxy files if possible. All ears, Ben

Troubleshooting compatibility issues: Files not importing: "missing proxy" I'm using a tutorial from Lyndia.com to learn FCP, so I'm the newest of the newb, coming over from Premier Pro. The version of FCP he's teaching from is 10.4.9 while the (trial) version I'm using is 10.5.1. Since this is a tutorial, I can't imagine that Lynda.com has uploaded files that aren't compatible with the tutorial, so I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong, but I'm following the tutorials to the letter and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Following the tutorial, after adding files to the Library the presenter Relinks by pulling down the file menu and selecting Relink Files. For me, there are two options after pulling down that menu: Original Files and Proxy Files. Neither one will relink the files. If I choose Original Files, FCP seeeeeems to import/link to them but every video file has the same "missing proxy!" caption over the videos. If I choose Proxy Files I get an additional search option then the warning that the files are not compatible -- but a few files did come into FCP. Through Finder I opened the files that didn't import -- they play in Quicktime -- and Get Info shows me the codex have Timecode, HEVC, AAC, so I'm not sure how to further trouble shoot this. Proxies generated in a different software Hi, I received from a client some 4k videos and some proxies generated files (with the same file name) in a different folder. He said that I could edit the proxies files and when its done, i could just change the original file (proxies) to the 4k one, as they are the same name. But Final Cut Pro is not accepting as the same file. Is this really possible?

Select one of the files and look at the bottom Info inspector. If proxy is red, use Shift-Cmd-R for Reveal in Finder. This should take you where the media is stored. Normally in the folder structure in column view you should see a folder for Transcoded media.

Which OS and software version is this? Where are the media and transcoded media stored?
