spacebar preview is not working

I finally upgraded my 2017 MacBook Pro Retina to Catalina last week (Sept. 22, 2020) after being able to replace all my 32-bit apps with 64-bit apps. I love the upgrade, with one exception!

Since upgrading, pressing the spacebar no longer shows a preview of document files.

Is there a fix to this issue, or is there some setting that needs changed?

Thanks for any assistance. I used the preview feature all of the time.

Does nothing open up or is it just showing a document icon instead of the contents?

The latter may just need to reindex Spotlight.

It only shows the document icon.

I will try reindexing Spotlight.
