Buy AppleCare after purchase

I'm planning to buy a MacbookPro next time I'm the US. Because I want it to have a Spanish Keyboard and that takes a couple of weeks, I'll have my friend living there ordering and picking it up for me.

The question is: can I then buy AppleCare for it on my name AFTER my friend purchases it for me?

In terms of timing, I'll picking it up from my friends house just a couple of days after he receives it. So my idea would be, as soon as I get it, to go to an AppleStore and add the AppleCare under my name.

I ask this because last time I did something like this (with my iPhone), my friend purchased it with Apple care included and then it was a hustle to use it because AppleCare was linked to his name and address.
