Can’t see past images in iMessage

When I look at an old conversation in iMessage, I used to be able to see all the pictures that were sent or received in that conversation. I updated to ios14 and clicked “download” for the image, and now they’re gone. I can’t see any of them.

It sounds like you’re having issues seeing the photo attachments in Messages after the update. We will be happy to help with this.


First, back up your iPhone and make sure you’ve updated to iOS 14.0.1 using the steps from these links:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


Once you’re up to date, check for a progress bar at the bottom of Messages. If you see one, the photos are being indexed which may take some time to complete. This is expected behavior.
