iPhone XR shuts down at 30% After updating to IOS 14

I got the iPhone XR last month at the apple store and everything was fine until I updated it to IOS 14. Now it shuts down at 30% and won’t turn back on until i use my charger. After plugging in the charger my phone finally turns back on and it says its battery is at 30%. Is there something wrong with my phone or is it just a bug for iOS 14? I called apple support and they couldn’t even figure out what the issue is. Does anybody know how to fix this or is also happening to them?

Open Settings ➔ Battery ➔ Battery Health : Here you will see your Battery Capacity and Peak Performance information. What is your Battery Capacity? What does it say under Peak Performance?

If the Battery Capacity is greater than 80% and Peak Performance is stated as normal then try the following-

Try and Force Restart your iPhone exactly as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

Re-calibration is not a new idea and used to be built into the BIOS of some laptops as an option many years ago.

The probability is that there is nothing wrong with your phone other than it has got confused about how much charge the battery holds.

What I did to reset mine was .........

Use the phone till the battery dies.

Recharge to 100% and leave it on charge for a while longer. (Hours, not minutes).

Then use it as normal and see how it goes.

Hope this helps.

I am not sure if this will work, but it is worth a try.

1) charge the phone as full as you can.

2) use it till it dies.

3) recharge to full

there is a lot of contradictory info out, I am not sure what is right, but it worked for me.

Out of interest, what does your battery health show. My minimum capacity shows as 92% and has done for a long time.

Hope it helps.

Hello!

I understand this issue, I’m having the exact same issue! And it’s really frustrating especially when I’m trying everything to fix it. I messaged Apple and they said it had something to do with apps using your battery without you even using them. They told me to change all these things in my settings even though I’ve had this iPhone XR for 2 years and it was running perfectly fine with all my setting in the same order as it was when I first started the phone up. Ever since I downloaded and installed iOS 14 this battery issue has occurred. I changed all of my phone settings as advised and it’s maid zero difference to this battery issue it’s still happing. Also, whilst on the Apple chat the last was able to check my battery status and do a atomic repair and she stated that there was nothing wrong with the battery at all. This has now lead me into buying a new phone which isn’t a iPhone XR since this problem has seen to only occur on the iPhone XR and not the iPhone 11 or 12.

Hopefully this help you out a bit. :)

My son has the same problem with that XR piece of crap. He went to apple store and they gave him a new one and guess what- it has the same problem and it’s worst. It shuts down at 50% this time. He went to apple store again and this time they want him to pay for probably repair but apple couldn’t even figure out what the issue is. I just told my son to throw that piece of crap in the garbage.
