Downloaded the ios14. I’m a bit of a clod and tend not to use all the new functions, however I find the “swipe down” to receive the search bar super helpful. Now i get a blurry screen and have to hit the home key to return to my main screen.

I had the same problem, but have solved it. What I had vainly tried doing was *swiping down from the MIDDLE of the TOP, but what they say is to swipe down from the very CENTER of the home screen. It is rather tricky, isn't it? I hope this will help you.

It always works for me. Your phone may have a screen digitizer problem.

Have you tried restarting your phone?
Have you gone to Settings/Siri and Search and verified that it is enabled and the features are enabled?
