I tried to password-protect a pdf file using the preview in Mac Air. However, after saving the file while I try to reopen it, the file is reopening without a password prompt. How to fix it?

When you password protect a PDF with Preview, it should offer a checkbox option to remember the password in your keychain. If you selected that option in the password panel, then you will not be prompted to supply the password in your own account, as Keychain provides it to Preview. Once the PDF is outside of your account, the password will be enforced.

To ensure that you set the password correctly, send it to anyone you trust, and ask them if they get a password prompt when attempting to open it.
