Support VP9 and AV1

Anybody know if Apple will be supporting some royalty free CODECs. YouTube uses VP4 for 4K content.

The YouTube app can only do 1920x1080 when my TV is 3840x2160

VC1 is a more recent CODEC which is royalty free for web content looking forward

I figure while HEVC is fine for the phone, the world is bigger now

VC1 is old and near abandoned, and not royalty free for hardware and software makers.

VP9 may possibly be implemented in Google’s effort to bring YouTube 4K video to Apple TV 4K. It was initially announced for tvOS 14, but has been postponed to a future date. Apparently their efforts were not ready for prime time yet. VP9 is not being further developed, as Google has indicated that AV1 will be its successor for them.

Apple is part of the alliance behind AV1, but has not made announcements yet on any implementation.
