New LG CX OLED Audio skipping

Got a new LG CX OLED 55 inch yesterday. I hooked it up to my 4th gen Apple tv. Now picture quality is great, but my audio keeps cutting in and out, like it stuttering. I bought a good quality HDMI cable and have since actually tried several HDMI cables and they all do the same thing. I also tried all 4 HDMI ports on the TV same result. If I use the build in app on the TV using WEBPOS they are fine no audio issues. I have tried every option in the TV for sound and in Apple TV same issue. It's like apple TV isn'y able to keep up with the audio or something. Any idea what would cause audio to cut in and out? I posted over at Apple TV reddit but no one has a clue LOL, seems like I am the only person having this issue. Running the latest official version for Apple TV didn't work also downloaded the latest beta version that didn't work either. If you go on Reddit apparently there is a ton of people having the same issue with Apple TV and this LG TV. pretty sure it's an Apple TV problem though because all my other streaming devices work perfectly fine with the LG TV.

Okay I pretty much figured it out. If you watch any video that has Dolby Atmos sound that's when it's going to screw up. So if you watch a video on Netflix that has Dolby Atmos sound you'll be fine. As soon as you exit out of that and say launch a video on YouTube or any other video type app that isn't Dolby Atmos enabled that's when the audio will start skipping. Somehow when you try to play a video that isn't Dolby Atmos enabled after just watching one that was it screws up the audio. So what you have to do is basically restart the Apple TV turn your TV off then turn it back on and then you can watch anything that isn't Dolby Atmos enabled and the audio will be perfectly fine. You can go into Netflix again and watch a video that has Dolby Atmos sound but once you're finished you have to restart your Apple device turn your TV off and turn it back on then normal audio will be fine. so anytime you see the Dolby Atmos sound Logo Pop up in the top right hand corner you'll know that when you're done watching whatever you're watching you'll have to restart Apple TV and your TV unless you're going to another video that is Dolby Atmos enabled then you'll be fine it's only when you go to regular audio that it starts to screw up. I know this isn't a fix it's more like a Band-Aid. But the problem definitely is software based and it's from the Apple TV. none of my other streaming devices and I've tried almost all of them do this only Apple TV. If others are having the same issue you should try what I suggested and try duplicating what I did. I'm going to send this off to Apple tech support as well

Another solution that seems to work is to open Amazon Prime App (On AppleTV) and Play a video from there. it changes the Audio Format and Fixes the Bug without having to Restart it. Having said that this is not something Unique to AppleTV i'm also having this issue with my Xbox Series X. Don't know the sequence to triggering it as has been working flawless for last 3 weeks until last night. Again on did not even realise as was wearing headset ad TV volume was very low until someone told me why is sound weird. Will further Investigate but LG really needs to look at this. Not even going to go into Sound Delay with Optic Cable

Unfortunately, after writing with LG® support, I have bad news. They answered my question for the update that resolves the issue we all have:

————————————————————————————————

"(...) Aktuell liegen uns keine Informatione vor bzgl. eines Updates für den von Ihnen genannten Fehler.

Mögliche Ursachen können aber auch beim HDMI Kabel liegen oder aber bei Apple TV selbst. Vielleicht hat evtl. Apple ein Lösung in Form eines Updates. (...)"

Translation:

(" (...) Currently we don't have any information concerning an update targeting the issue described by you. Possible causes could very well be the HDMI cable or the Apple TV itself. Perhaps Apple has a solution in form of an update. (...)"

————————————————————————————————

So far there is no released update for my "LG® OLED 55 CX series™" when I have my TV search for it.

This topic is very annoying, as it is clear:

• It is very unlikely that the HDMI™ cable could be the source of this issue as a hardware configuration does not change by restarting your TV and this is the only action that solved the issue temporary until after watching the next Dolby Atmos™ content.

• A restart of the Apple TV without unplugging the power supply of the TV does not bring an end to the audio distortions. Accordingly it is extremely unlikely that the Apple TV is either causing the issue nor that a future update on the Apple TV will have any positive effect on the issue.

• As many have reported that their LG® TV has recently received an update and it has permanently resolved the problem, I am wondering how LG® support could act as if this whole topic is brand new to them or as if it was only an issue of one single setup and not every customer connecting certain Dolby Atmos™ ready TVs to an Apple TV or BlueRay™ player as mentioned multiple times here.

3.21.09 doesn't fix it for me. And this is an LG issue (Xbox Atmos is has the same issue).

device e-arc to CX to soundbar (any).

This seems to have been introduced a few firmwares ago (after June 2020) when LG fixed the initial LPCM issue. Atmos has been experiencing dropouts for me since.

I first thought 3.21.09 fixed it, but it was short-lived - and probably just the cold boot it required the TV to do.

The fix isn't documented in the notes about the fw either. Super frustrating.

It is just unbelievable how bad support works! The misinformation they manage!

I had an answer from the technician after him talked with LG here in France, saying that an update solving this issue was in the making and it got released so YES did solve the issue.

So if I am you, I will answer them saying that before send an answer and blaming others, to get informed because in a country called France, LG the company they work with said that was an update in the making for that! That update is already out and solved the problem!

I’m experiencing the exact same thing 2019 LG OLED 65”. Tried everything nothing works, audio continues to skip and go out, it’s so annoying. Tried 2-Apple TV 4K’s, new HDMI Cable and Soundbars. Have appropriate audio settings, turned off Dolby Atmos, etc as suggested no improvement.

This is definitely an Apple software issue. Apple Support, are you reading these posts or do you give a care. Stop recommending we perform a reboot.

Apple You have the money and staff to rectify this issue for your customers with a simple request for the AppleTV team to release an update ASAP. This is ridiculous!

Support you need to give us a status update on how you plan to rectify this issue hundreds of your customers are experiencing.

I’m experiencing the exact same issue. Audio continuously skips in and out and sometimes Dolby Vision flashes on my screen. It’s so annoying!

What’s taking Apple Support so long to release a fix. Tried everything within config settings this problem is only happening with my 4K Apple TV.

Support can you at least respond to all these numerous threads of complaints with some glimpse of hopes for remedies you’re working on for your customers..
